In order to position loads easily and safely onto the pallet racking system in your warehouse, an I-beam jib crane, which is an overhead lifting device used for repetitive lifting tasks, is an effective tool for the job. Jib cranes have a simple design and are very beneficial in warehouses and other places that have extensive shelving systems.
With lifting capacities that range anywhere from 250 pounds to 15 tons, I-beam jib cranes are an essential tool for your warehouse. This important tool can streamline the production process, help employees meet their production quotas, and improve safety in the warehouse. The only hard part is to find the jib crane that best suits your needs.
In order to help you do just that, here are four types of I-beam jib cranes for your warehouse.
With a lifting capacity of 10,000 pounds, a standard span of 20 feet, and a 360 degree rotation, freestanding jib cranes are one of the most versatile on the market. This type of I-beam jib crane also provides optimal coverage and is the easiest of all the jib cranes to move from one workstation to another.
The freestanding jib cranes can be placed underneath large bridge cranes and come with three mounting styles including:
- Base plate mounted
- Sleeve mounted
- Insert sleeve mounted
While they are primarily used inside the warehouse, freestanding jib cranes can also be used outdoors when necessary.
This type of I-beam jib crane has a lifting capacity of 10,000 pounds, a span ranging from 8 to 30 feet, and a 180 to 200 degree rotation. Of all the jib cranes, wall bracket jib cranes are considered the least expensive.
This type of crane can be used in a variety of ways including:
- Individual bays
- Along structurally secured walls
- Along building support columns
- As a supplement to an overhead bridge crane
One major advantage this type of crane provides is that it does not require any floor space or foundation.
This type of crane contains a long projecting beam fixed at one end and has a lifting capacity of up to 5 tons and a 200 degree rotation. Wall cantilever jib cranes contain the most clearance, both above and below the boom, which makes them the best solution when plenty of headroom is needed.
Similar to a wall bracket jib crane, this type of crane can be mounted at any height to a wall or support column and can also be used for trolley travel.
This type of jib crane has a lifting capacity of up to 20,000 pounds, a span of 10 to 40 feet, and a 360 degree rotation. Unlike freestanding jib cranes, a mast type crane does not need a special foundation. Because they get supported from an existing overhead beam, all you need to secure a mast type jib crane is 6 inches of reinforced concrete.
The two design options for this type of crane include:
- Full cantilever
- If there are no overhead obstructions, the boom can get mounted to the top of the mast.
- Drop cantilever
- The boom gets drop mounted at a specific height using slide plate connections.
This type of crane works especially well in heavy duty applications when floor space is an issue and complete rotation is necessary.
